Re: “Idaho Faith Leaders for Immigration Reform: "We Sit in the Shade of a Tree That Someone Else Planted"

What Buzz Mills in his comment doesn't mention is that every sovereign nation that is a place of safety and refuge and prosperity has immigrants that will do what they have to do to protect and provide for their families. And it's not an invasion of "10's of millions" it is 11-12 million people who are already living in this country, some of them for many years, and many with American citizen children they support by doing the sort of jobs that American citizens simply won't do. No administration has done more to enforce current laws than the present one - deporting 50% more month on month than the Bush administration. More children have been forcefully separated from their parents than at any time previous.

We don't reward people who break our laws. Legal residence and citizenship are not rewards. When did you receive your reward, Buzz, and what did you do for it? How did you prove yourself worthy to be a citizen? What we do is understand why some people have committed a civil infraction (that's what crossing the border without inspection is - an infraction, not a crime, and remember you want our existing laws to stay intact) and make a way for them to come out of the shadows. Not to go back to the dangers and depravity of their countries of origin - countries that often their children have never even visited and which they themselves may not have seen for 20-30 years - but to be assimilated into a society that has already happily used their labor.
