  • President Trump was up early this morning, wishing good luck via Twitter to Michael Flynn, his former National Security Adviser, hours before Flynn was scheduled to be sentenced for lying to federal investigators. Prosecutors are expected to ask for little to no prison time for Flynn because of his cooperation with their investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

    Two Washington men are behind bars at the Ada County lockup, accused of using stolen credit cards to purchase gift cards at a number of local businesses. Boise Police said 30-year-old Mohamed Kariye and 31-year-old Mohamed Jarato were arrested Dec. 14 and charged with felony grand theft, felony burglary and felony fraudulent use of a financial transaction card.
  • CNN reports that a British couple who named their baby after Adolph Hitler has been jailed for being members of the National Action white supremacist organization, which was banned in the U.K. in 2016. During their trial, a jury heard that Adam Thomas and Claudia Patatas had given the their child the middle name Adolph. Photos of the parents have surfaced revealing the father wearing KKK robes and the pair holding their son in front of a Nazi flag.

  • ABC News reports that Garrison Keillor, former host of A Prairie Home Companion, has stepped back into the spotlight, appearing at a Minneapolis nightclub one year after Minnesota Public Radio cut ties with him over allegations of sexual misconduct.

  • The U.S. Surgeon General this morning called for higher taxes on cigarettes and a ban on indoor vaping. USA Today reports that Dr. Jerome Adams said nicotine is particularly harmful to youth because it can "prime the brain" for addiction to other substances.
  • The London Critics Circle revealed its nominations this morning for the best films of 2018. Variety reports that the shortlist from the critics is: BlacKkKlansman, Cold War, The Favourite, First Man, First Reformed, The Happy Prince, Leave No Trace, ROMA, Shoplifters and You Were Never Really Here.

  • It's being called the "Christmas Comet." NBC News says the comet, officially known as 46P/Wirtanen, is at its closest point to the Earth this week (about 30 times the distance from the Earth to the moon). The comet hasn't come this close for nearly a century and won't come this close again for centuries more, according to NASA.
