“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams.” —Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka

Dear Dream Zone, I keep dreaming about a trailer that I used to live in with my ex-husband. He’s always holding me hostage there. In this last one I was outside of the trailer in total panic. I wanted to leave but there was a storm and trees were falling and flying through the air. It is so real and very scary. —Lorie 43, North Huntingdon, PA

Lauri: Recurring dreams happen when there is an issue we've yet to resolve. In your case, the issue is something from your past that you have not let go of. Your dreams cannot move forward until you move forward. I assume your ex is not really holding you hostage in waking life, so this means YOU are holding yourself hostage. What in the world happened in this marriage? Was he abusive? Something happened that you have not been able to forgive him, or perhaps forgive yourself for. In your most recent dream you were OUTSIDE of the trailer, meaning you are beginning to "step outside" of that mindset of resentment, anger and no hope that began in your marriage, and make some changes ... but part of you is scared. The storm symbolizes your fear of change, "the winds of change." I think your dreams are showing that you’re off to a good start.

Lorie replies: We married when I was 18 years old. I was young and naïve. My ex was very abusive emotionally. He controlled what I did and when I did it. I wrote him the night I had the latest dream of being outside the trailer. I let a lot out in that letter. This is amazing. My head is spinning with all this and looking forward to relief!!!

Fascinating Dream Fact: The great Greek Philosopher Socrates studied music and the arts because he was instructed to do so in a dream.
