Edward Snowden changed the world. Whether you prefer to call him a whistleblower, a patriot, a traitor or a rebel, the man's 2013 leak of sensitive documents about United States government data collection has cast a shadow over the long-running conversation about how we balance privacy and security.

Learn more about the issue Jan. 27 at the Meridian Library Unbound Digital Services branch, which is hosting a conversation with Idaho attorney Peter Smith—whose wife sued the federal government in 2014 over electronic surveillance on 4th Amendment grounds—and Idaho Rep. Luke Malek, titled Dragnet Surveillance and the Law.

They'll discuss federal law concerning privacy, personal data protection and dragnet surveillance. The free event begins at 6 p.m. and runs until 7:30 p.m.
