Re: “Bill Gates Visits INL, Promotes His 'Traveling Wave Reactor'

Hey Bill, why not experiment with your nuclear crap experiments where your kids live? Oh that's right, you ARE a very smart man, and way too smart to risk where YOU live!
Welcome to Iduho, where our kids and water is worth risking for you important foks in Seattle.
Thanks Butch!

Re: “After the Quake

Gee, another nuclear scientist who falsely frames our choice as using nuke power or coal, or shiver in the darkness. Can yoiu say "geothermal power" Akira? Geothermal is steady 24/7 power, and it can provide 50% of the total USA power load.
Idaho has enough wind power to triple our electric needs, and never meltdown. Funny how in this long article Akira never mentions they still can not control FUK-U-shima. Akira never mentions we do NOT need a tsunami to wipe out back up emergency power. In the 1980's, Shoreham plant had all 3 backup generators break when tested past 15 minutes. In 2002, Indian Point had 2 of 3 fail. NRC only requires 4 freraking hours of back up power.
Idaho is too great to evacuate! ...Peter Rickards

Re: “Waste not want not

Come on BW, let's dig into the deadly details covered up by this "steaming" pile of smiling politicins! No deal! The politicians promoting the “new” nuclear waste deal have broken yet another promise to Idaho families who depend on clean water. This is over a ton of plutonium buried over our water. Billions of cancer causing plutonium particles spread all over. They promised to remove it all in 1970, and again in 1995. On July 2nd politicians claimed a “new waste deal would protect the aquifer.” Only the Times-News ran an accurate headline “Not ‘All’, but some.” In Clinton-esque praise of the new deal Deputy AG Clive Strong said "'All' still means 'all,'" but added “the word now includes waste that will not be removed…” MMM’KAY! This is a continuation of false advertising by these same smiling politicians in 1995! The transcript of the court case details how the State gave up the fight for “all”, way back in 1995, and settled for half! (Page 9 of final decision) So “all” meant half. The court decided that covered half the buried plutonium, too. There are 58,000 cubic meters of plutonium-contaminated waste buried. The court agreed with the State that 30,000 cu m had to be removed. This new "deal" only cherry picks up to 7,485 cu m! Cherry picking so far has only found “13% qualified”, leaving the rest buried. So now "ALL” means next to nothing. The ads for the “Get the waste out” team claimed the deal would “Say no to leaving waste over the aquifer.” I said they would leave most the plutonium dumped here, and open new plutonium dumps onsite. The new plutonium particle dump is called ICDF! But DOE scientists show huge problems with tiny plutonium particles moving with water. The ignored DOE report by Dr Solderholm, that I sent our State Officials, states: "For almost half a century, scientists have struggled with plutonium contamination spreading further in groundwater than expected, increasing the risk of sickness in humans and animals." Please understand, a FULL cleanup of ALL the billions of widespread plutonium particles could be done easily, providing $13 Billion in jobs for Idaho! This approach is part of the 2002 National Academies of Science advice. They met in Idaho Falls, where I gave comment on this approach, HEPA filter’s leaking plutonium, and water transporting plutonium. You simply inject liquid cement into the buried waste. Wait for it to harden into small solid hunks. Remove it into barrels, for safe inspectable storage. The advice calls for “emission free treatment” and “In the stabilization area, research should address new approaches to stabilizing buried waste prior to or in the early stages of excavation, “. ( http://books.nap.edu/books/0309084717/html/7.html ) Meanwhile, INL is planning to produce plutonium-238 at the rickety old Advanced Test Reactor, burying more plutonium particles onsite! (See www.yellowstonenuclearfree.com for safety problems) The official Impact Statement claims only harmless amounts of plutonium will leak, and you can stand at the fence line during a worst-case accident, receiving a miniscule harmless dose of plutonium, a provable lie. Ironically, part of the sales pitch to leave most plutonium buried is it might endanger a worker to inhale any! After years of bragging INL are the clean up experts, and robot retrieval photo-ops, INL plays the risk up to avoid clean up, and plays down the risk when promoting more plutonium production. Our Jackson Hole neighbors did our Attorney General’s job, stopping the plutonium incinerator the 1995 deal agreed to. Our AG and Governor fake the fight, folding our aces that could win in court. We can replace our politicians but we can’t replace our water or our children. Please call Otter at 334-2100 and say “no deal”!
