Eighth Street Marketplace Artist-in-Residency

When: July 13-31 2009
Residency spaces are offered to Idaho artists for three-month blocks of time, with no space rental fee for the selected artists, however, artists will need to purchase their own insurance policies to cover liability issues while in residence. Artists will be asked to leave one piece representative of their work behind for a gallery/archive of the artists in residence. Artist-in-Residence studios will be open to the public on First Thursdays so that the community can interact with the artists and experience their new work. Artists of any discipline—including painters, writers, filmmakers, dancers, poets and musicians—are encouraged to apply and the deadline is 5 p.m. on July 31. Send a letter of interest, resume with art practice history (past exhibitions, performances, publications), work sample (up to ten 72dpi digital images not larger than 9 x 12 inches on a CD, manuscript under five pages, sample music clip or short video or DVD of performance and letter of recommendation. A selection panel facilitated by Boise’s Department of Arts and History will choose artists for up to two residencies Sept.-Nov. and up to two more for Dec.-Feb. The selection will be based on artists’ commitment to a selected discipline and quality of art as evidenced through work history and samples. Serious consideration will be given to both emerging artists with more limited work history but great promise and established artists with proven track record. The panel is looking for creativity, passion, and active engagement in an artistic practice. Some restrictions to artists may apply due to safety concerns or noise factors. The selection process will be held in August 2009. Send applications to: Eighth Street Marketplace Artist-in-Residency, Boise City Department of Arts and History, PO Box 500, Boise, ID 83701-0500 or deliver to: Eighth Street Marketplace Artist-in-Residency, Boise City Department of Arts and History, Boise City Hall, 150 N. Capitol Blvd., first floor, building two. The program is sponsored by the Eighth Street Marketplace owners and Adrian + Sabine Sustainable Marketing, is facilitated in partnership with Boise City’s Department of Arts and History and Boise Weekly is the media sponsor.
