Re: “Unda' The Rotunda

Ahhh, the Idaho Legislature. They are the first to scream at the Federal government for REAL ID, wilderness land, wolves and the like, but wail for Craig-Wyden funding as though it were a birthright. They can whip themselves into a frothy passion describing the sacredness of personal property rights when it comes to smoking in bowling alleys, yet somehow a woman's reproductive rights don't fall under the category of "personal property." They expound on the sacredness of life and how it deserves such protection, but we still have the death penalty, and anyway, I'd like to think that if life was some sacred thing not to be tampered with we'd see our sons and daughters taken care of past once they were born. Idaho's farm boys turned public "servants" are schizophrenic indeed, and not many of us outside observers expect the Bart Davises to truly grasp the notion that some of us feel differently than they do in the religion department, or the intricacies of "separation of church and state." It seems like a straightforward concept to me, but then so it does that slathering about for Craig-Wyden funds while drafting up legislation such as HJM 11, so I guess I'm not a good judge of straightforward. The older I get the more it seems that the highest of human traits are acceptance and empathy, and these are lacking in the Capitol building. Perhaps one day we'll figure out what it is about the process of our government that weeds out so many of the people that have capacity for these things, and maybe then we'll be able to right it.
