Re: “The Kill Joy

I linked to this tripe from another blog. When I saw the author, I almost didn't bother to read it. I gave up reading Cope several years ago. His columns used to be fun to read, although I seldom agreed. He would state an argument, entertain, poke a little fun. His article grew progessively meaner and more obnoxious over time. I see little has changed. There are legitimate arguments on both sides of this, and that doesn't make one side elitist and the other inferior. It's representative of politics at all levels.. mean, personal, and over the top.

Re: “Open Government

"The Board of Ada County Commissioners is confident that business will continue as usual, as it has for decades past, regardless of the change in elected leadership," Tilman wrote. This attitude is exactly what prompted me to vote for Sharon. I am eager to read the blog.

Re: “Cutting bennies

"If people aren't able to find the time to get their mammogram or whatever, finding out about it a year later is going to cost a lot more," Neiwirth said." What a ridiculous statement. I am sure that State workers can find time for a mammogram.. under sick leave or even time off without pay. If not, it's their fault, not mine.

Re: “Popkey's Coda

I just read Bill Cope's column on Dan Popkey's final (hopefully) installment in the Larry Craig saga. I, too, was in Moscow during those years and have memories of both Ray and Chris (interestingly, none of Larry or Dirk). Bill's column was spot on. I commend him for a fine column--both in thought and execution. I gave up reading Bill a long time ago. He used to be humorous, but good natured. Then, it seems to me, his columns became more strident and had a certain meanness to them. I always assumed that it was because of some editorial direction. This latest column demonstrates what a fine writer he is and re-establishes in my mind that he has a good heart, to boot.

Re: “Don't Call Me

How Terrible! You actually have to go find out what is happening rather than just waiting for the Governor's office to run down and tell you. And.. to talk to the Governor, you have to go where he is. It's certainly an outrage. What ever happened to reporting?
