Feb. 28, 2018: What to Know

  • Dick's Sporting Goods, one of the largest retailers in the U.S., said this morning that it would end sales of all assault-style rifles and that it would not sell guns at all to those under 21, regardless of local laws. ABC News reports that the announcement comes two weeks after a school shooting in Parkland, Florida that left 17 people dead. It marks one of the biggest decisions taken in corporate America as the national gun debate rages on.
  • Boise Police say felony charges have been filed against six teenagers who allegedly caused $15,000 in damage by pelting golf balls at homes and vehicles in north and southeast Boise in late January. Cordar Moore, 18, was charged along with two 17-year-olds and three 16-year-olds with a felony count of malicious injury to property.
  • With only one more game in its regular season, the Boise State men's basketball team is hobbling to the finish line. The Broncos lost to San Diego State Tuesday night,  72-64, with Boise State committing 17 turnovers. The Broncos will bring their record of 22 wins and 7 losses to the regular season finale this Saturday, March 3, when they host Wyoming at Taco Bell Arena.
  • Johnnie Walker finally has a female counterpart. For more than 100 years, a natty gentleman complete with top hat and cane has adorned the labels of Johnnie Walker whiskey. Beginning in March, Jane Walker will appear on some limited-edition bottles of Johnnie Walker Black Label, with a suggested price tag of $35. For each of the 250,000 limited edition bottles sold, one dollar will be donated to various organizations that champion women's causes, as part of the Johnnie Walker #WalkWithJane program.
