The 61st-annual Grammy Awards made headlines even before airing on Feb. 10 for the list of artists—including nominees Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino, Drake and Kendrick Lamar—who said beforehand that they declined to attend. In a twist on the big night, Drake did appear to accept the award for Best Rap Song ("God's Plan"), though he was cut off mid-speech. Other big winners included Kacey Musgraves, whose Golden Hour took Album of the Year; Childish Gambino, who won Record of the Year and Song of the Year with "This is America" (two firsts for a hip-hop/rap track); and Dua Lipa, who took Best New Artist.

  • Despite facing calls for their resignations and the threat of an impeachment bill (now on hold according to the Washington Post), embattled Virginia leaders Gov. Ralph Northam, Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax and Attorney General Mark Herring are all still in office as of this morning. Both Northam and Herring admitted earlier this month to having dressed in blackface, while Fairfax faces two allegations of sexual assault.

  • Meanwhile, former New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson is facing accusations of plagiarism and factual inaccuracy over passages in her newly released book on journalism, Merchants of Truth. The allegations came from Michael C. Moynihan of Vice News. Though she initially denied plagiarizing in her book during an interview with Fox News, on Feb. 7, Abramson told NPR, "Though I did cite these publications and tried to credit everybody perfectly, you know, I fell short."

  • Closer to home, a collision on Bogus Basin Road between a Hummer H2 and a snowboarder on Feb. 9 proved fatal. Shea Helmick, 32, of Meridian, was struck when he "attempted to jump" over the road, according to Idaho State Police. Helmick, who wasn't wearing a helmet, later died at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medial Center.
