February 25, 2019: What to Know

  • North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is en route to Hanoi, Vietnam, where he's scheduled to meet with President Trump this Wednesday, Feb. 27, to further discuss the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. The New York Times reports that Kim is taking the scenic route: a 2,800-mile train ride through China.
  • A constant barrage of storm systems will pound southwest Idaho over the next few days. Treasure Valley commuters were greeted by rain and higher-than-normal temperatures this morning. The rain is expected to turn into snow on Tuesday, and a rain/snow mix will dominate the Treasure Valley forecast until later in the week. Meanwhile, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for mountain communities. The Garden Valley, Cascade, McCall and New Meadows school districts all canceled classes today.
  • The 2019 edition of the Bloomberg Healthiest Country Index says Spain is the planet's healthiest nation. Italy is number two, followed by Iceland, Switzerland, Sweden and Norway. Time Magazine says the U.S. dropped to No. 35.

  • Food & Wine magazine says British pubs are shutting down at a rate of 14 per week. But don't panic just yet. There are still 38,815 pubs in the U.K.
  • Just in case you missed it, the Oscars were handed out last night. The big winners were Green Book, Bohemian Rhapsody and actors Olivia Colman and Rami Malek. You can read the full list of winners by clicking here. By the way, if any of the winners want to cash in their trophies, they won't get much. The Motion Picture Academy has a strict rule that says a winner cannot sell his or her Oscar without first offering to sell it back to the Academy for $1.
  • Meanwhile, the Razzies were also doled out this past weekend, "honoring" the worst movies of 2018. Holmes & Watson was named as Worst Film, and President Trump picked up two awards, for Worst Actor and Worst Screen Performance. Trump appeared as himself in a pair of documentaries: Fahrenheit 11/9 and Death of a Nation. Kellyanne Conway won Worst Supporting Actress for playing herself in Fahrenheit 11/9.
  • Nabisco has something for Game of Thrones fans who are a bit crazed over the series' final season. It's Game of Thrones-themed Oreos, which will hit the shelves before the HBO show's final season premiere on Sunday, April 14.
