A two alarm fire, which destroyed the Boise International Market
and upended the lives of a number of Boise's burgeoning refugee community, has been determined to be an arson. Initial reports of the Sept. 5 blaze indicated the fire, which started in a kitchen wastebasket, was an accident. In an official statement released today, however, fire investigators say they uncovered new information.

"We interviewed a number of vendors in the building and worked with a variety of outside agencies, including private fire investigation experts, to come to this conclusion," wrote Boise Police Fire Investigations Sergeant John Terry in a BFD press release.

Following a joint four-month probe by the Boise Police and Fire departments, investigators say the fire was intentionally set.

Now, investigators are looking for the public's help in identifying the arsonist(s). A reward of $5,000 has been posted for any information leading to the arrest or conviction of the person or persons responsible. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS or the Idaho State Fire Marshal Arson Hotline at 1-877-75-ARSON. Tips can also be submitted by texting “Tip236" plus your message to 274637 (CRIMES).

The Boise International Market opened its doors in the fall of 2014 and held an official grand opening in April 2015. BIM quickly became a destination for Treasure Valley citizens, eager to support more than a dozen vendors, most of them refugees from around the world.
