Float, Run and Ride

On August 11, registrants of the Tube, Trot and Trike Triathlon will be asked to float three miles on an inner tube down the Boise River, exit east of the Ram Restaurant on Park Blvd., jog down the Greenbelt (with inner tube firmly in hand) to a course where, once enough racers have gathered ("Experience has taught us that a group of adults on little trikes at once is much more entertaining than fewer adults on little trikes," it reads on the TT&TT Web site), they will race around a track on trikes. Prizes will be awarded.

While the name of the race may seem a little silly, the inspiration behind it is anything but. The proceeds from the $30 individual registration fees go directly to the Challenged Athletes Foundation, an organization that helps people with physical disabilities participate and compete in any number of sports-related activities.

Registrants must be at least 18 years old and registration fees include a free T-shirt, but only if you register by today. Late registration will be accepted (no race day registration will be allowed), but if you wait, you may not get a T-shirt. If tubing, jogging and taming a tiny three-wheeler aren't for you, you can still be a part of the event by volunteering to help.

Registration deadline: August 1. Entry fee: $30. Race: August 11, 2 p.m. Racers sign in at the parking lot east of the Ram Restaurant at 12:30 p.m., and a shuttle to Barber Park is available from 1 p.m.-1:30 p.m. For more information, visit tubetrotandtrike.com or e-mail Matt Perkins at perk@coyotedesign.com.
