Former UI Communications Professor Arrested in Lewiston on Drug, Burglary Charges

Denise Bennett has been sprung from the Nez Perce County jail, The Argonaut reports.

The former University of Idaho communications professor was arrested without a warrant on Sept. 20 on felony charges of burglary and possession of a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She posted $5,000 bail on Sept. 23, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Nez Perce Magistrate Court on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Earlier this year, Bennett attracted statewide headlines when a Vandal Alert, the university's most serious campus-wide alert, was issued, barring her from campus after she sent an incendiary email to school administrators, appeared in a controversial video online and issued a "manifesto." Popular with students, Bennett was ultimately fired in mid-September by UI President C. Scott Green, who sided with a dismissal panel's recommendation to terminate her employment.
