Françoise Duressé The Paper Bag Project

When: Sept. 6-Oct. 22 2010
Price: FREE
University of Colorado at Boulder Assistant Professor Francoise Duresse's new mixed-media project addresses the stratification of social status based upon skin colour differences, which has continued from one generation to another within the African Diaspora. This colour based hierarchy could be defined by the brown paper bag test: Skin lighter than a brown paper grocery bag can pass, darker skin fail, a hush-hush practice that continues to prevail today in many societies.
