Re: “Fired Boise Co-op Founder/Manager Talks to BW

SeanPierson, Idaho is an At-Will State. The Board doesn't have to and legally cannot explain a damned thing for their unanimous decision to fire Ken, who has been manipulating the press, the members and his friends into thinking that some nefarious evil plot is underfoot to turn the co-op into a corporate profit pit. Fact is the Board has issued a statement that early in 2010 the entire Board, including Ken himself, voted to replace him sometime in early 2011. For many months Ken helped the Board plan the succession to another GM. Essentially Ken has been fired twice in one year so this decision was not in any way "arbitrary". Ken can bitch about how "underhanded" it seems but considering the hundreds of stories we have heard from his victims in the past week I'm not the least bit concerned whether he gets a wittle emotional booboo. Ken shouldn't have tried to fire all those managers and the Board of Directors hahaha! What a moron! We know he has recieved a few DUI's, some driving the Co-op vehicle which is a huge liability for the Co-op. Right now he has a bench-warrant out for his arrest: http://www.idahostatesman.com/2011/01/20/1

Starting in 2009 we began voting really professional, responsible, ethical and now we see courageous Co-op members to the Board of Directors. These guys are not from Potterville, don't let Ken fool you with his weak-ass machinations. They are Co-op members who are in love with the store, the staff, their fellow members, the community and the State. They aren't out to squeeze more and more profit out of the Co-op by raising margins or by screwing over vendors. As far as the innumerable accusations of sexual harassment, I happen to know several women who have recieved settlements from Ken predicated on NDA's. That means Ken caved in and gave them their price. James Christensen intimated that during Ken's 37 years, any woman who couldn't afford to sue Ken was "disciplined" which raises all sorts of questions. The question I ask is if he was innocent all of those times why he didn't fight it all the way to the end and not give them a dime? I remember a few years back in the Weekly of all places where Kavanagh gave an interview talking about how sexy his marketing manager's short skirt was, he has always been open and in our face with this sort of closet-creepiness and a lot of members called for him to be fired at that time. So why all of the drama surrounding Ken? Was he really that big of a saint or were you just kind of snowed?

Ken operated that Co-op like a socio-pathocracy. With a few exceptions, the only people who have the "talents" to reach the top of the political ladder are those who will betray those closest to them on the way up without guilt or remorse. Ken himself seems incapable of feeling remorse or embarrassment or shame and I have long believed Ken exhibits every single one of the Millon subtypes for Narcissistic Personality Disorder: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissistic_

I can't wait to meet the new GM that they hire! This is exciting stuff and I'm very hopeful for the future. Long live the Boise Coop!

Re: “Members Only?

One of the Co-op employees said today "The irony is that Ken has such a large rolodex of settlements predicated upon non-disclosure that if some of them decided to testify against him he would never be able to figure out which ones turned on him." That would surely make me paranoid too. It's the case of the Emperor Who Wears No Clothes, ever hear that story? Everyone turns their heads all the time, until someone doesn't. Then it's time for the paranoia, and the revealing statements. ‘Anonymous-Boise’ who many believe is Ken, accuses all of Ken’s accusers are "covering for something JUST AS DISGUSTING". He also appeals to the “kids” at the Co-op who he is trying to convince will get their pay reduced to “minimum wage” if Ken isn’t there to save them. Oh, and the Co-op is being sold to “SUPERVALU”, unless Ken is there to save them from “bored millionaire sociopaths”.

The next statement I find interesting is how he believes all of these Board members are trying to get their hands on the "MILLIONS" of expendable funds the Co-op has at its disposal every year. Um, I'm sorry, did you say "millions"? Ken? Because you always told your employees that there was only about $200,000 wiggle room at the end of the year, even though most years the store was grossing over $20,000,000 . If the rest of it was operating costs, where in the hell would the Board get "millions" to play around with in any single year? Unless you were lying all that time??? Anything you say can and will be held against you. Get used to that phrase, I think you'll be hearing it again one day soon.

You see, Ken, when you wave your hand in an arc and tell your staff that the FlipSide lost half a million bucks, right after you told them that the POS system was a loss of a few hundred grand, it really seemed like you were putting together a bit of a ruse to account for the disappearance of over a half-million dollars in about one year. How much was legit? How much wasn't? How would anyone know because Kavanagh never allowed a single audit of the books, an audit which he repeatedly told his staff would be too expensive, costing, he said, "$100,000" dollars? Maybe if you were Enron an audit costs that much. Maybe. Without a transparent accounting of its books the Boise Consumer Co-operative Market has never had any sort of accountability to its member-OWNERS.

We like stressing that word, because Ken always treated everyone as if he owned the store, and he still is in fact. It's been a fight every step of the way. For decades, Ken fought like hell to keep the Board meetings secret, so nobody knew when or where they were being held. We had to take legal action to get them posted. Then Ken fought like hell to keep the Bylaws secret. We had to take legal action to get a copy of them. Then Ken fought like hell to keep the member-OWNERS from electing their own picks to the Board. But we won, step by step, fight by fight, inch by inch, as days turned into months turned into years. We got the Board meetings posted. We got the Bylaws. We elected our own Board members not of his choosing and now here we are, at this juncture, watching the pitiful contortions of a paranoid-delusional Emperor who can't seem to understand he fell from grace a long time ago. He's a bit slow like that I guess. Nothing is his fault! It’s all an elaborate preposterous plot hatched by “THEM”!!!

Perhaps Robert M. Hutchins said it best: "This is a do-it-yourself test for paranoia: you know you've got it when you can't think of anything that's your fault."
