Re: “Midnight Food Shopping in Idaho Featured on NBC

What people don't consider when someone is using food stamps and they are driving a volvo and living in a big house and have a flat screen tv is that those same people had an income a few months ago. Last year, their annual household income was double and two years ago, it was triple. The volvo is paid off. The tv is paid for outright. The house has a mortgage payment of $1500+ a month. They have canceled private health insurance because it has become too expensive ($600+ per month just for the parents, because 6 months ago, the two children were put on state health insurance because, 1. they qualified and 2. because, as a family, we were struggling then...and before then. So, what I say, is be careful how you judge. I have a beautiful home that is falling apart around me because I cannot afford the upkeep. I have a nice car that is paid off, but just cost me $3000 in neccessary repair (stearing and break failure). I have my kids in nice clothes (none of which I have paid for, hand-me-downs from friends). Am I on food stamps? Yes. And WIC. And applying for jobs. Point: DON'T BE TOO QUICK TO JUDGE. It is embarrassing for a lot of us. I'd like to be where we were 3 years ago. We were fine. I feel stupid for not knowing this was coming. Eff the insurance companies who have raped our family. Eff the banks who have screwed most of America. Eff the 1% who (yes, they made their money, but...) get tax breaks to make their mega income contribution minimal compared to their income. This is me. An average American. And today, I just spent an hour filling out an application online for a state job (only way to apply) with screaming kids to lose all of my work and have to start over after bedtime to hear in the backround that people are embarrassed to be using food stamps. This country needs a serious overhaul!
