Go See Spot Walk

Join the Idaho Humane Society in celebrating the 14th Annual See Spot Walk charity event on Saturday, Oct. 3. Dog owners and animal lovers alike converge every year at Julia Davis Park to celebrate their canines and take a one-mile walk through downtown.

“It’s a great fundraiser for us, and it’s a wonderful community event,” said Christine Moore, director of communication and events at the Idaho Humane Society. “At least 3,000 people and their dogs participate, and they are all so well-behaved. It’s an amazing sight to see them parading up Capitol Boulevard.”

The event also hosts numerous vendors, as well as contests, prizes and treats for both you and your pup. Registration includes a long-sleeve T-shirt designed by Will Spearman for the humans and a doggie bandana for the mutts. After the walk, take an opportunity to pose for photos with your pooch and get information on vaccinations, spay and neuter service, adoption and microchipping by the Idaho Humane Society.

Over the years the contests have changed, but one of the most popular is the Dress to the Canines. Last year brought out wiener dogs in wigs, Labs sporting sunglasses and bulldogs dressed as masked crusaders. Another popular event is the Best Vocal contest with dogs howling for glory, and the ones who receive the most accolades are rewarded handsomely for their performance.

Fees are $12 for children, $20 for adults, or $18/person in a group of four or more. The proceeds from this puppy parade help keep homeless animals off the streets and find them loving families. Participants are welcome to raise additional money by collecting pledges. Register online at the IHS Website or at any Zamzows through Oct. 1. Late registration (day of event) is $25 adults and $20 children.

Saturday, Oct. 3, 10 a.m. registration, walk at 11 a.m., $12-$20, Julia Davis Park bandshell, 700 S. Capitol Blvd., Boise, idahohumanesociety.com.
