Re: “Report: Idaho Among 10 States Running Out of Smart People

This isn't news. According to Idaho's own recent "Go On: High School is not Enough" video, 76% of adults in Idaho do not have a college degree. Idaho ranks 43rd out of 50 states in students going from high school to college. This video and information was produced in Idaho by Idahoans. The sad thing is nothing of value will ever be done about it. It's no secret Idaho doesn't take education seriously. In fact the citizens of Idaho passed over two educators with doctorates (a republican and a Democrat) and elected a State Superintendent of Education who has never been an educator at the elementary, middle school or high school levels. Idaho also doesn't seem to believe in diversity. This mentality will hurt students who may want to go to college somewhere where there are people from other cultures. Idaho's universities' faculty meetings all look like Andy's Mayberry City Council meetings. When will the newspapers in Idaho do some real investigative journalism? Which Idaho university is truly progressive? Which Idaho university gives students an education that will allow them to survive and be successful in an environment with people from different cultures and races? How can a university do that when the only people from different cultures and races students ever see are employed by the universities athletic departments? Back to high school education, the pattern of solution in this state seems to be, pull the smartest students out of the non-charter schools and educate them in charter schools. This method keeps everyone from having to figure out what's really wrong with public schools. Heaven forbid ever questioning whether or not some teachers are equipped or good enough teachers to be in a classroom. That's holy grounds. Until we are willing to say, just as we do with plumbers and construction companies, there are good ones and there are bad ones, the product they produce will always be substandard.
