Revan, a 4-year-old male African lion, will soon be on view at Zoo Boise.

It has been more than a year since the Zoo Boise grounds have echoed with a lion's roar. When the zoo's longtime-resident male lion, 14-year-old Jabari, was euthanized in January 2017 following a battle with lymphoma, lionesses Mudiwa and Obadiah were the lone residents of the zoo's exhibit. But that's all about to change. This weekend, a 4-year-old male African lion named Revan made the journey to Zoo Boise from Maryland, thanks to a collaboration with the Association of Zoos & Aquariums.

According to Zoo Boise, which announced Revan's arrival Monday morning, it will be a while before the public can get a glimpse of the new lion—he has to go through a quarantine period, and then be slowly introduced to the females—but in a few months Revan should be co-habitating with Mudiwa and Obadiah (both 16 years old) in the main exhibit.

“This is an important addition for Zoo Boise that will help us further our conservation mission,” said Zoo Boise Director Gene Peacock in a press release. “We are excited that guests will once again get to experience the roar of an African lion at the zoo.”
