Re: “Ada County Commissioners Consider Balloon Restrictions

I have occasionally enjoyed taking off from Lady Bird park since 1977 when the 1st Western Idaho Fair Balloon Rally that I attended took place. I think there is no harm as there are no homes nearby and balloon pilots are required to climb to FAA governed minimum flight altitudes as soon as possible after take off. Since someone apparently doesn't like balloons coloring the skies of Ada County, maybe they should go for a flight and experience it for themselves sometime. The person responsible for this initiative might possibly be the same fellow who took pictures of me landing off State St. near a trailer park a few years ago and called Channel 7 to report the "terrible balloon crash". That left a few people with egg on their faces. The Senior citizens who were delighted to see us land and helped us pack the balloon up after the flight might take offense to this effort as much as they did that day. Boise has been on the map for a very long time as a great, picturesque place to fly. Many of us have a key to get in to the park and have signed in with the Fair Office so they know who is flying from the park. I realize we make some noise when we fire the burners during flight but it isn't constant. This seems as ridiculous as someone moving in to a home on the airport flight path then complaining about the noise from the airplanes. Grow up and enjoy what we have. Many communities envy what we have here.
