Hunting and Angling News

By now, news has sufficiently spread that Idaho Fish and Game and Gov. Risch have given the all-OK to hunt domestic elk, which escaped in Fremont County more than a month ago. A series of three hunts composed of 50 hunters each begin this week and run through October 14. The first series began September 19, in big game unit 62 and closes Monday, September 25. The subsequent two hunts are September 26-October 2 and October 3-14.

After taking the top medal in the first ever National Fly Fishing Championships and Conservation Symposium in Boulder, Colorado, earlier this summer, Capital High School teacher Brett Bishop and his teammates from Fly Fishing Team USA headed to Coimbra, Portugal, to compete in the world championships last week. The final results of the 26th FIPS-Mouche World Fly Fishing Championship 2006 found the U.S. team in 10th place overall. Individual standings saw George Daniel place fifth overall, Lance Egan 24th, Brett Bishop 62nd and Jeff Currier 74th. Another Treasure Valley local for Fly Fishing Team USA, Pete Erickson, placed 92nd and Mike Sexton finished in 106th.
