Hunting and Fishing News

It's all about the hunting and fishing season this time of year. In order to help facilitate rehabilitation on acreage burned by wildfires last summer, IDFG is calling for volunteers to help collect sage brush seed. In Southwest Idaho, IDFG is hoping for 80 volunteers per day for four days: Nov. 17. Dec. 1, 8 and 15. In the Magic Valley area, IDFG wants 60 volunteers for four Saturdays: Nov. 10 and 17 and Dec. 1 and 8. For more information, call 208-327-7095 in the Southwest region and 208-324-4359 in the Magic Valley region.

The Boise River will receive its first load of 330 steelhead Nov. 8. IDFG has been trapping the fish at the Oxbow Hatchery, and additional deliveries can be expected, Nov. 15, and 20, to bring the total to 1,000 fish. Anglers need a 2007 fishing license and a steelhead permit.

And now for the bad news. IDFG is looking for information on a poacher who illegally killed an elk Sunday, Oc. 14, or Monday, Oct. 15 between Rock Creek and Jenkins Creek roads near Weiser. Anyone with information can contact IDFG. Call Nampa Fish and Game office at 208-465-8465, the Citizens Against Poaching hot line 1-800-632-5999, or the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 208-414-2121 and ask for Mark Sands.
