Idaho Dance Theatre Receives Big Bucks from the NEA

Boise State's Idaho Dance Theatre was recently awarded a hefty $10,000 grant by the National Endowment for the Arts. This is the first grant that Idaho Dance Theatre has received from the NEA and the group is the only dance company in southern Idaho to receive an NEA grant.

The group plans to use the grant money to fund performances in underserved rural areas of Idaho. Idaho Dance Theatre's tentative fall performance schedule, a 10-day tour, includes performances in American Falls, Burley and Mackay and will showcase new choreography in five communities.

The group also plans educational outreach in at least one school on each stop of the tour, and they will tailor performances to reflect what the students are currently learning. Thanks to the NEA grant, this is the first time that Idaho Dance Theatre will be able to do educational outreach in rural areas, according to Joan Dashiell, the group's managing director.
