Ilana Rubel Appointed to Fill District 18 House Seat

One District 18 appointment deserves another.

Boise attorney Ilana Rubel was appointed today by Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter to the Idaho House of Representatives, filling the District 18A seat vacated by Democratic Sen. Janie Ward-Engelking, who was just sworn in Jan. 6 as the district's new state senator.

The 41-year-old Rubel is a litigation partner in the Boise offices of law firm Fenwick & West. She's a graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Law School.

Rubel was one of the three candidates that District 18 precinct committee members nominated to fill the vacated seat of former Sen. Branden Durst—which Ward-Engelking ultimately filled.

"I am very grateful to have this opportunity to work with my fellow legislators on both sides of the aisle to help bring top-quality jobs to our state, make our schools the best they can be, and protect Idaho's natural resources for generations to come," said Rubel following today's announcement from the Governor's Office.
