Indie Fest, July 5, Qwest Arena

Warm weather and more hours of daylight are harbingers of not only a long, hot, dry season but of the pervasive summer outdoor music festival. Paragon Entertainment's contribution to the fray was initially going to be held in the Linen District. Live at the Linen would take place one day in each summer month and include artists, vendors and live music on two stages. Problems with the powers that be forced a location cancellation and a near annulment of the entire event. But Wendy Meyers of Paragon held on to the idea like a puppy with a chew toy and started making phone calls. Her tenacity paid off. The nice folks at the Qwest Arena stepped up and, for a lower fee than they usually charge, offered up the giant space. A name change and act juggling (but no juggling acts) and the first of two planned Indie Fests is slated for July 5. The acts/musicians, in no particular order, are: Ruby Hill and Justin Klump, both from Portland, Ore.; Renfue and Jeff Phillips, who both hail from L.A.; Steven Kattenbraker from Seattle, Wash.; Wayward from Reno, Nev.; Boise's own Bank, Jerry Fee, Low-Fi and Josh Olswanger Band; The Invasion from Nampa; Chris Merritt from Salt Lake City, Utah; and Jeff Wenberg all the way from Minneapolis, Minn.

And what's a summer to-do without an organization to benefit from it? A percentage of the ticket proceeds will go to Treasure Valley Institute for Children's Arts.

July 5, 11 a.m.-10 p.m., $12 adv. at Record Exchange, Qwest Arena box office or online at; $15 door; 12 and younger FREE with a paid adult. Qwest Arena, 233 S. Capitol Blvd.
