Iration, Dub Lounge International; Saturday, March 7; Bouquet

On Saturday, the Bouquet hosts another installment of what will hopefully be an ongoing series of musical moments we don't see much of in Boise.

Hawaii-based Cali rockers Iration and reggae dub rock group Dub Lounge International share the stage in a move that makes sense. Bouquet booker Travis Powell promises Dub Lounge will be "rocking the classic reggae beats making them for real on tons of equipment and instruments." Their roots-based dub is at times celebratory, at other times sad with lyrics true to reggae's own roots as political statement. It's a combination that reaches for both your heart and your mind, inviting you to open up and let it in.

Iration's smooth rhythmic beats born of an island background often find comparisons to Rebelution, Slightly Stoopid and Pepper. Iration recently played a show at L.A.'s Roxy with another SoCal-esque reggae band, Tomorrows Bad Seeds (who opened for the Wailers at the Knitting Factory in January), garnering a favorable review on

Reggae, dub, hip-hop, rap—these musical genres are by no means blowing up. They are however, types of music we don't see too often in town and are always a welcome addition to the slowly but surely changing tapestry of Boise's music scene.
