Joan Baez, July 8, Egyptian Theatre

Living legend

When Boise Weekly spoke to Joan Baez in 2009, she was preparing for the premiere of a PBS American Masters documentary of her life, Joan Baez: How Sweet The Sound. She was also celebrating her storied career with a 50th anniversary tour that commemorated her debut at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival and her entry into the vanguard of folk music icons. But it wasn't a farewell tour.

Though most people think of retiring at age 65, the Grammy-nominated, 73-year-old Baez continues to write, record and perform. She visits Boise this year as part of a summer tour, which kicked off in June and takes her across the western United States and parts of Canada through the end of July. After a short break, Baez will kick off a fall tour in September, which starts in Groningen, Holland, includes four dates at London's Royal Festival Hall, and sees her singing her way across Ireland, France, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
