Re: “Sweeney Todd

I really enjoyed this film. I am also an avid Tim Burton fan. He has a knack of telling deep stories in a very sur-real fashion. Sweeny Todd I thought was par with his other films. I enjoyed the added realism. I have not seen the Broadway version but have seen the play done with Angela Lansbury and George Hearn (on video) Angela's accent was also far to thick to understand, making Helen's rendition much easier to follow. I don't believe Mr.. Barker (Sweeny) returned to kill everyone, this was a progression in his lust for revenge, having missed the chance to avenge the kidnapping, rape and murder of his true love he is consumed and takes it out on all who care to visit his shop. His counter part in crime however takes it all to a much more gruesome level. I would not recommend this film to all however. If you like gory films you may be disappointed with the musical. And vice versa. Tim Burton fans should enjoy however, It was like a mix of Nightmare Before Christmas and Sleepy Hollow.
