Judge: Tired of "Nasty"Campaigns

Idaho will lose another Supreme Court justice this summer, and not because she's tired of the job.

Justice Linda Copple-Trout told the Spokane, Wash.,

Spokesman-Review

that she was tired of the nasty campaigns for re-election.

"That certainly was a factor in my decision. ... I think it tarnishes the judiciary," Copple-Trout told the

Spokesman-Review

.

Her last day on the bench will be Aug. 31, ending a 15-year stint, including two terms as chief justice. If she stayed on, Trout would be up for election again next year.

This leaves Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter with two seats on the bench to fill. Justice Gerald Schroeder has also announced his intent to retire.
