Re: “USDA Wants Consumers to Know What's In Their Meat

As a consumer, I would like to know about any additives. I've noticed that what grocers sell as "sliced beef" at a deli counter makes an unsatisfactory sandwich compared with meat sliced from roast beef cooked at home. Well, no wonder! The deli's selling something secretly pumped up with water and other additives!

The American Meat Institute warns telling the truth would raise prices. Perhaps. But if the deli counter would label its products accurately, consumers may be willing to pay more for 100% beef and pay less for a product properly labeled (for example) as 65% beef/35% additives.
