Larry Craig Helps Increase NEA Budget

Apparently Republicans like publicly funded art, too. If you don't believe it, check this out:

On June 9, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved a $5 million increase to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) budget, in an amendment to an appropriations bill offered by Sen. Larry Craig (and co-sponsored by Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia and Republican Sen. Pete Domenici of New Mexico). The increases would bringi arts endowment funding to $126 million.

Says Sen. Craig of the proposed $5 million NEA budget increase, "We all know the benefits of this important program-particularly for predominately rural states. For every federal dollar, arts agencies are able to generate an average of seven dollars from other sources. Those dollars support arts activities that improve education, promote local economies and unquestionably enhance quality of life."

The Senate will take the bill to the floor for voting on June 16.
