Live at the RX!

On Sept. 13, Rocky Votolato performs live at the Record Exchange. His fifth full-length release, The Brag & Cuss (on Barsuk), finds Votolato moving in a new direction, bringing the country of his childhood days in Texas and blending it with a Northwestern sensibility indicative of his home base in Seattle.

Sept. 13, 5:30 p.m., FREE, The Record Exchange, 1105 W. Idaho St., 208-344-8010.

Live at the Egyptian!

In the late '80s, a band with a silly name (so pre-Emo) created a sound and an image often built out of nonsensical words and odd vocals, but a brilliant sense of sound and arrangement. In support of their July release, The Else, They Might Be Giants makes Boise one of the stops on their tour.

Sept. 22, 8 p.m., $25, The Egyptian Theatre, 700 W. Main St.,

Reggae legend Everton Blender will play the Egyptian Theater on Sept. 25. Blender "blends" dancehall and roots music to create unique songs often defined as anthems.

Jus Goodie, whose sound is described as a mix of "vintage reggae, Motown soul and classic R&B," and Blender's daughter Isha, along with locals, Voice of Reason will be opening.

Sept. 25, 6 p.m., $18, children under 12 FREE, The Egyptian Theatre.
