Living without a Soul, Dying without God

When: Fri., Oct. 2, 6-8 p.m. 2009
Price: FREE
Portland State Neuroscientist Dr. Joshua Fost, professor of history and philosophy of science at Portland State University presents a lecture titled Living without a Soul, Dying without God. The discussion centers on the contrasts of a naturalistic worldview produced by science in contrast with a belief in soulful, Godful theism. Fost discusses humans as mechanical zombies who face the end of life without believing in the prospect of comfort and some kind of peace on the other side and posed the question: Is there more to the "bag of molecules" philosophy than meets the eye? Fost earned his Ph.D. in neuroscience from Princeton University and is the author of the book If Not God, Then What? Neuroscience, aesthetics, and the origins of the transcendent.
