Nov. 14, Knitting Factory

Of all the memorable performances during Treefort Music Fest 2017, the one by hip-hop star Lizzo (Grrl Prty) was a standout: The artist and her backup dancers—dubbed "the big girls"—brought charisma and a powerful message of self-confidence to the main stage. The 29-year-old Lizzo has become a leader in the body positivity movement, perhaps best heard in the 2016 anthemic track "Good As Hell." In her recently released singles "Truth Hurts" and "Water Me," Lizzo's tight rhymes are underscored by her R&B sensibility, and her Detroit, Houston and Minneapolis roots shine through.

Since her Treefort performance, Lizzo's star has continued to rise—her music was featured on the HBO series Insecure—so Boise gets to see her a second time his year, when she returns for a mid-tour show.
