Sad news for fans of the American tradition of watching movies under the stars: This morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that the Motor-Vu Drive-In in Twin Falls will not be opening this summer.

It turns out that a water pipe burst during the winter, causing severe damage to the restrooms for several months. All in, damage is estimated at $28,000 and that's too much for owners Interstate Amusement.

“We know how important the drive-in is to the community," general manager Ben Koldewey told the Times-News. "We are very disappointed to share this news with the community. We’ve had several people ask ‘When are you going to open?’”

The drive-in was closed briefly in 2014 but resumed operations in June through September. Owners had expected to open this season, but the damage is too much, said operators. Meanwhile, the Motor-Vu has been put up for sale.

Meanwhile the Parma Motor-Vu drive-in, off of U.S. 95, remains open. The popular drive-in, which has been operating since 1953, remains open on Friday and Saturday nights and, beginning on Memorial Day, will be open Thursdays through Sundays.
