Re: “Private Meetings Fail to Save Curb Cup for This Year

Hi, this is Mark Rivers and, I was the organizer and patron of the Curb Cup in 2009 and 2010. Once again, thanks to everyone who has supported this event in the past -- it was lots of fun and a one-of-a-kind celebration of Boise. (But, a lot of expense and effort, without much support or engagement from other downtown businesses and stakeholders.) Indeed, a group met this morning to discuss and, I appreciate the recent effort of the Mayor's Office and the DBA in encouraging another round of the event. At the end of the day, there simply wasn't enough time and, the requirement of even more expense than prior years. I'll continue to evaluate this and see if we can relaunch in 2012. But one point of clarification from the story above. Terri Schorzman, the City's Arts Director, indicated that I said that I "had too many things on my plate" and that's why we couldn't pull it together. That's simply not true nor, was that an item of discussion that ever surfaced. I'm busy, sure. We all are. But, that wasn't a deciding factor of any kind. I simply felt that there wasn't a lot of support for the event by many of its beneficiaries (local businesses especially) and, I wasn't prepared to push forward on a huge, costly undertaking that folks were ambivalent about. That's it and that's all. I'm a huge believer and booster of downtown and will continue to work on initiatives like this, and others, as we make a great community even better and more unique. Thanks, MR
