Minnick Makes it Official

Looks like it's official—Walt Minnick is running for Idaho's First District Congressional seat.

Minnick was set to make it official Nov. 14 in Julia Davis Park—just one of four campaign stops in a statewide tour that includes Caldwell, Coeur d'Alene and Lewiston.

Nothing new here: BW picked up on it a few weeks ago (BW, News, "Purple Dreams," October 31, 2007). The announcement means there will be a three-way Democratic primary, pitting Minnick, the former CEO of Trus-Joist, against Larry Grant and North Idaho resident Rand Lewis.

On the Republican side, incumbent Rep. Bill Sali will face off against Canyon County resident Matt Salisbury.

Minnick is no stranger to politics. His last campaign was in 1996, when he unsuccessfully challenged Sen. Larry Craig, losing by 16 percentage points.
