Mr. Cope's Cave: The Very Best of Us

There is little sadder in this world to me than hearing of a firefighter losing his or her life while performing their job. What they are and what they do when they don't die is awe-inspiring. When they die, it is a tragedy beyond words.

We lost three of them this week, there on the horrific front line between life and conflagration. There are almost 30,000 others out there, right now, on that line. Think about them today. Think about what they are doing, and what would happen without them.

This is for Tom Zbyszewski, 20; Andrew Zajac, 26; Richard Wheeler, 31; and the others.
