It will be a Saturday of champions as Les Bois Park wraps up its 2015 live racing season today.

The Garden City racetrack has had a bumpy ride in 2015, which began with a hotly debated effort to keep its so-called "historical racing" gambling devices inside the Turf Club. The 2015 Idaho Legislature voted to pull the machines, saying the devices were too similar to slot machines, which are illegal in the Gem State. Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter vetoed that bill, giving the machines a reprieve for another season.

Then, a deluge of rain made the racetrack too soggy, prompting Les Bois officials to postpone the 2015 opening day in mid-May.

It should be all smiles Saturday as some of Idaho's finest thoroughbreds and quarter horses compete for the final honors of the season at Les Bois with more than $400,000 in purses up for grabs this weekend. Saturday's racing will feature the John Deere Juvenile Challenge, Merial Distaff Challenge, Bank of America Challenge, Idaho Cup Juvenile, Idaho Cup Distaff Derby, the Idaho Cup Thoroughbred Derby, the Idaho Cup Ladies Classic, the Idaho Cup Classic and the final race of the season, the Au Revoir.

Racing in the Au Revoir and the Idaho Cup Juvenile will be Scott Stevens, brother of Idaho racing legend Gary Stevens. With more than 30,000 starts of his own, Scott Stevens' horses have won $36 million.

Post time for Saturday's first race will be 5:30 p.m.
