Music News

APOLOGY: In the Music Guide section of the June 8 issue of Boise Weekly, the June 12 listing for the John Cowan Band and Joshua Tree was incorrect. The John Cowan Band did play at the Winery at Eagle Knoll, but the show did not start at 7 p.m as listed. It started at 4 p.m. and it was definitely not a free concert (as listed). Many of you drove out to the Winery to discover that there was a cost for the show and many of you drove out there only to discover the show was over when you arrived. Our sincerest apologies to all of you and to Big O Productions, who are responsible for bringing some great shows to Boise. They really took a hit on this one. We are sorry about the mistake and will do everything we can not to let something like this happen again.

Last week there was news that the Diggy Bass Room was no more and something special was coming to replace it. That something special was scheduled to open the weekend of June 18. The name of the new ass-kickin' joint is Dirty Little Roddy's. At DLR's you won't find martinis or prisses but you will find beer, peanut shells and lots of yee-haws. Oh, yeah. And a mechanical bull. That's right ... a mechanical bull. Oh, and for those of you who get a little agressive when you drink too much, you can arm-wrassle your frustrations away. A mechanical bull and an arm-wrestling table in downtown Boise. Now, that's progress.

Blender magazine wants to know if you have what it takes to be an awesomely bad band. They don't want bad. They want Bad.They want the weird, the bizarre, the unconventional, the strange, the odd ... you get it. You need to be able to play and perform your own original tunes and, according to the Web site, you need to be prepared to be involved in a "part reality show, part televised battle of the bands." Do you have what it takes to be a star? Then this contest is not for you. Do you have what it takes to frighten, startle, confuse or amuse people? Then get a copy of a performance mailed in. Folks have already forgotten about the first Apprentice. Put Boise back on the map. Visit for more information and mailing address.
