New EMS Joint Powers Agreement Put Before Local Agencies

The agreement would include fire departments in Boise, Eagle, Kuna, Meridian and Star, in addition to Ada County and North Ada County paramedics

This coming Tuesday, May 14, the Boise City Council will be briefed by Boise Fire Chief Dennis Doan on a new, regional emergency medical services system and a proposed joint powers agreement among fire departments in Boise, Eagle, Kuna, Meridian and Star, in addition to Ada County and North Ada County paramedics.

The new EMS system would be headed by a joint powers board, consisting of elected officials from each member agency, which would adopt medical protocols and be responsible for budget approval. Administrative officials—such as a chief or assistant chief—would be responsible for coordination among member agencies. Additionally, physicians would make up a medical directorate to provide clinical management and solicit input from the medical community.

According to the proposal, the EMS system was developed "over two years of discussion, debate, reflection and collaboration" among the member agencies.
