It's time to stretch out your typing fingers: The 16th annual Boise Weekly Fiction 101 Contest is now open for submissions.

Every year, scores of literary stylists submit their 101-word stories for a chance at cash and glory. Winners (and everyone else) will see their work published in the Jan. 3, 2018 edition of Boise Weekly 2018, and they will have a chance to read their winning entries to a rapt audience at our annual reading party (date TBD).

The rules are as follows:
  • Entries must be exactly 101 words long. No handwritten entries will be accepted.
  • All entries must be in Microsoft Word and must be submitted digitally to
  • Entry fees—$10 per story—may be paid online via, or mailed to Boise Weekly Fiction 101, 523 Broad St., Boise, ID 83702 (we will also accept in-person payments). Do not send cash! After both entry and payment have been received, we will send an email confirmation
  • The deadline for entries is 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24.
Boise Weekly will be closed Thursday-Friday, Nov. 23-24, for the Thanksgiving holiday. The closure will not affect electronic submission or payment. Anyone wishing to drop off entries or payment physically may slip them through the mail slot.

Once the contest closes, entries will be sent to our panel of five esteemed judges, who will select the winning entries, which will be published in the Jan. 3, 2018, edition of Boise Weekly.
