  • The Marriott hotel chain announced this morning that the database of its Starwood reservation system had been hacked and that details of up to 500 million guests going back as far as 2014 had been compromised. CNN reports that exposed data includes names, phone numbers, email addresses, passport numbers and dates of birth. Some credit card numbers were also potentially compromised.

    The City of Boise will reopen its Pioneer Day Shelter tomorrow for families experiencing homelessness. The shelter will be open Saturdays and Sundays through the end of March and is located at 500 S. Ash Street in the River Street Neighborhood, not far from the River of Life Mission and Interfaith Sanctuary. Now in its 10th year, the shelter offers respite from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for families experiencing homelessness. On weekdays, Interfaith Sanctuary also provides day shelter for families in need.
  • Delta Airlines has begun having passengers use facial recognition to check in for flights at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The Atlanta Journal Constitution says Delta is looking to expand the technology to the Detroit airport and, ultimately, to airports across its international network.

  • Law enforcement officers across Europe are on the lookout for three men who stole a Renoir painting from an auction house in Vienna this week. Authorities told ABC News that the men were "clearly professionals" after they nabbed the work of art from the Dorotheum auction house in the Austrian capital.

  • The Paris-based La Liste is out with its list of the best restaurants in the world, and Food & Wine magazine says the best of the best is a tie: Le Bernardin in New York City and Guy Savoy in Paris.

    • Roma was awarded Best Picture.
    The New York Film Critics Circle Awards were announced last night. New York critics chose Roma, which will stream on Netflix in mid-December, as the best picture of the year. Best Actor went to Ethan Hawke (First Reformed), Best Actress was Regina Hall (Support the Girls), Best Supporting Actor was Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) and Best Supporting Actress was Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk).

  • Two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks, who is currently filming a biopic based on the life of Mister Rogers, is reportedly in discussions to play Geppetto in Disney's live action remake of Pinocchio. Variety says the film will be directed by Paul King (Paddington).
  • And just because it's Friday, we thought you might enjoy this delightful performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody" by 28 trombonists. They made the video during this year's  International Trombone Festival in Indiana.
