In her work, Italian-born/Belgium-based artist Irina Novarese creates a "type of abstract storytelling that brings into question how we perceive and personify history, its relics and those who preserve it." Novarese, the current artist in residence at Ming Studios, has been examining the space between fact and fiction for her upcoming exhibit, One Shot, which was sparked by a photo titled "All Female Survey Crew" that she found in a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation book. The historic 1918 shot was taken during Minidoka Project planning, and is said to be the earliest surviving photo of an all-female survey crew. In One Shot—which runs through Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, Novarese explores the realities, impressions and speculations relating to the photo, allowing viewers to see, through her eyes, a little-known moment in Idaho history. The exhibit will debut on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
