Immigration has, perhaps, never been so in the forefront of global consciousness. Multicultural group OneBeat will add to the local conversation when it brings sounds and stories of migration and diaspora to Boise. OneBeat, an initiative of the U.S. State Department along with New York-based music Found Sound Nation, believes "collaborative music creation is a potent form of cultural diplomacy." OneBeat is a kind of creativity incubator, in which musicians from around the world "create and perform new work to explore how artists and institutions can work together to rejuvenate local economies through arts and technology." The 25 OneBeat artists—selected from 1,200-plus applicants from 17 countries—will perform a few times in Boise, starting with a show at the Linen Building, followed by performances at The Record Exchange, Rhodes Skate Park and The Olympic, with Kyrgyzstani folk music, South African pop, electronica from Jordan and more.
