Onesidezero with 12th of never and abrupt edge, 11/22, the big easy

Thanksgiving is Thursday. If you're one of the lucky few who aren't cooking a big feast and don't have to be anywhere for dinner until late, consider heading over to the Big Easy tonight to see Onesidezero with locals 12th of Never and Abrupt Edge.

Never heard of Onesidezero? Onesidezero is L.A.-based Jasan Radford on vocals, Levon Sultanian on guitar, Rob Basile on drums and Cristian Hernandez on bass. The band put out one full-length release, Is This Room Getting Smaller?, in 2001, contributed a track to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 CD and also lent a song to the soundtrack of the movie A Walk to Remember. When Is This Room failed to garner much commercial success, they were dropped by their record label, Maverick. The members of Onesidezero went their separate ways except for Sultanian and Radford, who both joined up with Soulfly's Mike Doling to form the band Abloom. However, the planets must be in alignment now, because Radford, Sultanian, Basile and Hernandez are back together, out on tour and planning a new album for 2007. Which is a good thing, because this is a good band.

On their myspace.com site (myspace.com/onesidezero), Onesidezero lists their genre as rock/metal/classic rock, which is true, but a bit misleading. Each song contains all of those sounds and even a little more. Radford's smoky vocals have earned the band comparisons to Tool. Onesidezero is some of the most addictive prog-metal-rock I've heard. Even after listening to the four songs on their site all day, I'm craving more. I guess I'll just have to go see them for myself. I wonder if I can get someone else to cook Thanksgiving dinner ...
