Oriental Rugs!

Ten Thousand Villages in Hyde Park is hosting a Fair Trade Rug Event featuring high quality rugs from skilled Pakistani artisans all day, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The rugs, handmade by adults in Pakistani homes, will be available for sale in a variety of sizes and colors during the event.

From their news release:

Ten Thousand Villages works exclusively with JAKCISS Oriental Rugs, based in Lahore, Pakistan. JAKCISS Oriental Rugs was started in the late 1960s by a Pakistani Baptist pastor who was concerned about the economic, spiritual and personal welfare of the people in his area. Since the 1960s, JAKCISS has grown to include over 700 families from 100 villages throughout Pakistan. JAKCISS helps these artisans work together and supports village development, through building schools and helping to complete roads and homes necessary to the welfare of the village.

Rugs purchased at Ten Thousand Villages enrich the lives of the artisans who create them by providing income for food, health care, education and improved housing.

Ten Thousand Villages, located at 1609 N. 13th St. in Boise’s Historic Hyde Park, is part of a North American network of more than 90 non-profit stores.
