The Seattle, Washington-based funk/pop crossover band Pickwick will make a stop in the City of Trees Friday, Aug. 25, to promote its sophomore album, LoveJoys (2017, Kung Fu Records) with a show at Neurolux downtown. Newly released this summer, LoveJoys is a departure from the classic rock and roll themes that listeners of the band’s 2013 debut release Can’t Talk Medicine (Dine Alone Records) might expect.

The quintet has clearly turned over a new leaf, and online magazine Paste described its updated sound as “glossy, groovy future-funk that rumbles and snaps in all the right ways ... a seamless little sound-world of old soul, new blood, sleek pop, slow jams, electro-funk and fearless exploration.”

Packed with 10 tracks, LoveJoys mixes modern electronic elements with moments of pure 60s- and 70s-era psychedelic throwback. On its Facebook page, the band describes its music as "Indie R&B / Space Soul" and promises listeners that LoveJoys will leave them “exhausted and deeply satisfied, slick with a sheen of glitter and sweat”—a strong recommendation if ever there was one.

With Cataldo. Friday, doors: 8 p.m., show: 9 p.m., $14-$16. Neurolux, 111 N. 11th St., Boise, 208-343-0886, neurolux.com.
