Proposal for the Rotation of Lewis and Clark

When: Sat., Aug. 25, 6-10 p.m. 2012
Price: FREE
This exhibition by Los Angeles-based, conceptual artist Gala Porras-Kim draws attention to the emphasis of aesthetic considerations when making art and how these choices may lead to a misrepresentation of the meaning of the work. Through proposals to different government offices, Porras-Kim requests the rotation of a series of sculptures of Lewis and Clark along the Oregon Trail. The rotation would orient the sculptures to point west and allow the physical monuments to match the history they aim to commemorate. The installation consists of graphic and written documentation of the correspondence between the artist and the government agencies. Food and beverage will be served at the opening. The artists will be in attendance.
